Anson Hartford, Hugh Hartford & Chris Jones

Anson, Hugh and Chris are the founders of Banyak Films. They make documentaries that have been distributed internationally in the Middle East, Australia, Brazil, USA and Canada.

Anson has produced documentaries for the BBC, Al Jazeera English and Sky Arts as well as the Film Council, BBC Films and a host of independent ventures.  His last half hour film was a BBC 4 Arts Documentary about one of the great unknowns of British photography, James Ravilious, as part of the BBC's 'Genius of Photography' season. In production, at present, is a feature documentary due for completion in 2010, aimed at the international documentary film festival market. Anson has five years of experience in running workshops, which aim to produce professional short documentaries. These films have been screened on BBC 2 and at the V & A.

Hugh has, for the past five years, produced and directed documentaries for UK and international broadcasters, through Banyak Films. Hugh’s first film, a comedy documentary made for an anthropology masters degree, was picked up by National Geographic. His latest project, ‘Us Now’, was first aired on Channel 4’s international feature documentary slot ‘True Stories’ and has been shown in cinemas in over 15 countries. He regularly makes current affairs documentaries for Al Jazeera English.

Chris’s early interest in photography drew him into the world of image making. Whilst studying at Plymouth College of Art and Napier University, he made the transition from stills photography to the moving image. His work on the graduation film 'Come to Grief', won him an award for Best Cinematography at the Scottish Students on Screen Awards. Chris now works as a director of photography in 35mm film and HD for documentaries, short films, music videos, commercials and feature films.  He has also directed short films and documentaries of his own.
