Dartmoor School of Art was born:
Kathryn grew up on her family’s dairy farm in the shadow of Dartmoor and still lives less than five minutes from her childhood home. Inspired by her deep connection to Dartmoor and her farming roots, the characters of the farm and the area's landscapes are central themes in her artwork.
After more than 22 years as a school art teacher, the loss of her much-loved mother inspired Kathryn to fully dedicate herself to her own art. Now, she creates her own pieces while helping others discover their creativity through the Dartmoor School of Art.
Meet Our Lead Artist: Kathryn
Kathryn enjoys en plein air painting, a practice that beautifully combines her love of the outdoors with her creativity. In her workshop, she primarily repurposes metal to craft stunning objects for the home and garden. Her work is inspired by the farm, the Dartmoor landscape, and the Biblical concept of Katartizo—the idea of restoring and giving new life. Many of her pieces are created from objects that have been "re-storied" and hold memories within them. Kathryn frequently works with metal to create sculptures but also enjoys using wood and repurposed cloth. She particularly loves crafting lights, giving these materials new life and purpose.
